Jolai van der Vegt studied architecture at the Delft University of Technology. She graduated in 1997 and was granted the Archiprix 1998. She works on architectural and urban assignments and does research on consequences of changing society in public space, both in The Netherlands and abroad. Jolai van der Vegt designs educational methods and interiors, makes photographs and writes stories. In 2001 she became partner in the office Bureau Bergzicht. In 2004 she founded her own office Jolai.nl and cooperates with different people in design, research and educational projects. Since 2007 she also works part-time for the Urban Area Development Department of TU Delft.
